Israel on Tuesday formally accepted US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a bilateral ceasefire with Iran, declaring its military objectives achieved while vowing to “respond forcefully” to any violation of the truce.
In an official statement, the Prime Minister’s Office thanked President Trump and the United States for their role in defending Israel and helping eliminate what it called the “Iranian nuclear threat.”
“In light of having achieved the objectives of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agrees to the President’s proposal for a bilateral ceasefire. Israel will respond forcefully to any violation,” the statement read.
The announcement came shortly after Trump said that Iran and Israel had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” set to take effect gradually within the next 24 hours, following a final window for military operations.
The decision followed a late-night Security Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which included the Defence Minister, IDF Chief of Staff, and the Mossad Director. Officials concluded that Operation Rising Lion, launched on June 13, had neutralized a “double existential threat” to Israel from Iran’s nuclear and ballistic capabilities.
“The IDF has achieved air superiority over Tehran, struck key regime targets, eliminated hundreds of militants from the Basij forces, and took out a senior nuclear scientist,” the statement said.
The Prime Minister’s Office described the outcome of Operation Rising Lion as a “historic achievement” that positioned Israel among the world’s major powers in terms of strategic capability and security influence.
Israeli citizens were urged to continue adhering to IDF Home Front Command directives until full compliance with the ceasefire is verified. The government also expressed solidarity with families of the deceased and injured, praising the armed forces for their sacrifice and success.
“This is a great success for the people of Israel and its fighters, who removed two existential threats to our country and ensured the eternity of Israel,” the statement added.
The Israel-Iran conflict escalated sharply on June 13 after Israel launched strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated through ‘Operation True Promise 3’, targeting critical Israeli infrastructure. The crisis deepened after the US launched ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’, a strike on Iranian nuclear sites, prompting Tehran to launch missiles at US military bases in Iraq and Qatar.
Trump’s ceasefire initiative was bolstered by Qatar’s diplomatic intervention, which helped secure Iran’s conditional acceptance of the proposal.
